Pricing
Free for clubs.
On The Fly costs nothing for a flyfishing club to use. No monthly subscription. No setup fee. No plan tiers. We make money only when a member pays a club through the platform, whether for a booking or for a club membership fee. We keep a flat 5% commission on each transaction; the club gets the rest.
We chose this on purpose. We do well when members are paying clubs; if your club isn't getting value, we aren't getting paid. It also means you can put On The Fly in front of your committee without asking anyone to sign off a SaaS line item.
What clubs get, at no cost
- Member self-service booking from a phone or computer, for a configurable list of club resources: waters and beats, accommodation, equipment, and anything else the club wants to make bookable.
- A committee dashboard for managing memberships, members, waters, beats, permits, accommodation, other resources, and pricing rules.
- Club membership fee management: configure your membership types, take payment from members, and renew at the right time of year.
- A single place to see who is on the water and what is booked, replacing the spreadsheet and the phone queue.
- Post-booking feedback and catch data captured by members, so your committee finally has real information to manage your waters with.
- One-click export of your full member list to CSV, any time.
- An audit log of every change to club data: who made it and when.
- Direct support from the founder while we are in the pilot phase. Email info@onthefly.club and you talk to Edrean.
How we make money: the 5% commission
Every time a member pays a club through On The Fly, we keep a flat 5% platform commission on the transaction. That applies to booking payments and to club membership fees in the same way. The remaining 95%, less the payment processor's fee (see below), goes to the club.
The price the member sees while browsing is the price they pay. We don't tack a platform fee on at the checkout step. The 5% is built into the displayed total. The member's receipt itemises the amount and the 5% platform fee separately, so the math is visible after payment. Nothing is hidden in the total.
Payments are processed by Paystack, our payment provider in South Africa. Paystack charges its own per-transaction fee (currently 2.9% + R1 excluding VAT, per paystack.com/pricing), which is deducted from the transaction alongside our 5% before the net is paid to the club. We use this rate in the worked example on our Refunds page.
There is no minimum or maximum amount. The 5% applies equally to a R100 day permit, a R500 monthly membership fee, and a R5 000 weekend cabin booking.
Currency
All bookings are denominated in South African Rand (ZAR) at launch. We do not support multi-currency bookings yet.
VAT
On The Fly is not currently VAT-registered. Our 5% commission is charged without a VAT component.
The club's portion of any transaction is handled under the club's own VAT status. Paystack is VAT-registered, and the per-transaction fee they charge is inclusive of VAT.
Refunds
Refund rules are set by your club and shown to the member at the moment of payment. On The Fly executes refunds technically when the club authorises them. The 5% commission and the Paystack processing fee are non-refundable on refunded transactions. The full policy, with a worked example, is on the Refunds page.
